For five days, seven to eight teams composed mainly of design and science communication students will work on the basis of doctoral theses from the Université Grenoble Alpes to design a fun and scientifically rigorous game prototype.
For 12 years, the Scientific Game Jam has been a creative event dedicated to scientific mediation through games, held in Grenoble and many other cities in France.
In March 2026, for a special edition in Grenoble, the event will leave the world of video games to explore the world of board games.
The games produced will be disseminated and can be reused at events, workshops or exhibitions (Fête de la Science in October 2026, etc.).
The central role of the PhD student
The PhD student provides the basic idea on which the game will be built, as well as ensuring the scientific validity of the concepts discussed. He or she helps to translate complex concepts and supports the team in its choices.
A first-rate learning experience
For these PhD students, Game Jam is a unique opportunity to experiment in science outreach, discover new working methods and interact with creative minds.
It is also an opportunity to develop cross-disciplinary skills (project management, teamwork, creativity and communication) within a collective, friendly and stimulating adventure, dedicated to the sharing of scientific knowledge. While the PhD student's presence is desirable throughout the event, partial attendance is nevertheless possible, with key times identified (launch and final presentation).
10 hours of training are granted and an Open Badge is awarded.
Scientific Game Jam 2026 dates and locations
